Albert Martin Miller, age 91, of Lamar died Friday March 2, 2012 at Truman Healthcare Center.
Albert was born May 19, 1920 in Barton County to Martin Frank and Anna (Ramsbottom) Miller. On March 26, 1942 he began serving his county in the United States Army. He was the last survivor of the 703rd Tank Destroyer Battalion in the Third Armored Spearhead Division. He was in charge of a Tank Destroyer and participated in the Battle of the Bulge and helped liberate the Nordhausen Slave Labor concentration camp and liberated many other slave and POW labor camps. Albert was a recipient of a Purple Heart
After release from the Army, he returned home and on November 16, 1947 he married Imogene Alice Alumbaugh at Nevada, MO. Albert worked as a lineman for Barton County Electric for 37 years and retired in 1985. He was a protestant and was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post #3691.
Survivors include nieces Susan Splitter of Lamar, Carol Anne Farrell, Ruthanne Meagan Gerber of Greenville, SC and Karen Alumbaugh; nephews, Steven Alumbaugh, Larry Alumbaugh, Paul Alumbaugh, Craig Alumbaugh, and Kevin Alumbaugh; and a sister in law Velma Miller; a brother in law Chet and Juanita Alumbaugh; and a sister in law Betty Alumbaugh.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Imogene; one brother George F. Miller; one sister Ruth Ameila and Elmer C. Mulder; a nephew Lawrence Miller and nephew Randy Alumbaugh
A funeral service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday March 6, 2012 at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with full Military Honors.
Visitation will be 6 to 7 pm Monday at Daniel Funeral Home.
