Alvin Martin Unruh, age 89, of Lamar, died Monday July 18, 2011 at Barton County Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Alvin was born October 28, 1921 to Henry J. and Elizabeth (Thomas) Unruh at Ringwood , Oklahoma . He served his county during World War II in the United States Army from 1944 until 1946, serving in the Army Medical Corps.
On November 22, 1948 he married Katherine Glendora Marie Jenness at Paul's Valley, Oklahoma , and together they raised two children. He worked as an auto mechanic in Enid , Oklahoma until they moved to the Lamar area in September of 1950. He worked as a grain and livestock farmer.
Alvin is survived by one son, Norman & Marilyn Young Unruh of Lamar; and one daughter, Margie & Darius Swearingen, of Jasper, MO; one brother John & Lois Unruh of Everett, WA; one sister, Ruth Unruh of Lamar; 9 grandchildren, Marie Thomason, Dawn Lynch, Mandy Crocker, Tucker Unruh, Dalton Unruh, Rachel Lewis, Aaron Summer, Courtney Young, and Shelly Swearingen; and seven great grandchildren; Christopher Thomason, Chelsie Thomason, Cadence Thomason, Lilly Lynch, Caden Crocker, Raegen Lewis, and Cheyanne Swearingen.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Katherine, a brother Milton Unruh and a grandson Christopher Unruh.
Funeral Service for Alvin will be 10:00am Friday July 22, 2011 at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery , Lamar. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
