Amos Miller, age 100, of Lamar, passed
away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Truman
Healthcare Center.
Amos was born July 29, 1910 at Capron, Oklahoma,
to L.J. and Lily (Corley) Miller. As a child, he moved with his family to Barton County
where he spent most of his life and achieved his goal of celebrating 100
years. On December 24, 1941, at Lamar,
he married Margery Pritchett and, in 1942, was called to military service. As a soldier in the 88th Infantry
Division, Amos was deployed to Italy,
Casa Blanca, and North Africa during World War
II. Returning home in 1945, Amos
continued his career as a skillful auto mechanic. He also was a master of lawn mowers of any
make or model and had designed engines and parts for many of the Lawn Boy
mowers. He was a member of the Jasper
Christian Church, the Lamar Masonic Lodge, I.O.O.F., and VFW Post
3691.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years,
Margery, of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Vern & Karen Miller of
Flower Mound, Texas; a daughter, Arlene Buck of Lamar; five grandchildren,
Travis and his wife Teresa Buck of Lamar, and Nathan, Kyle, Daniel and David
Miller, all of Flower Mound, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Jed and Clara
Buck. Amos was preceded in death by a
daughter and two sons-in-law, Virginia & Jim Erwin and Keith Buck; seven
brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Monday at Daniel Funeral Home where Masonic Rites will be observed at 6:00 p.m.
Sunday. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery
with military honors conducted by Lamar VFW Post 3691.
