Dorothy Anita Means, age 96, of Lamar, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Truman Healthcare Center where she had been a resident since 2007.
Anita was born June 28, 1914, in Lamar, to Ora T. and Mearl (Adams) Means. She was a 1932 graduate of Lamar High School, a homemaker, and a life-long Barton County resident. Anita was an avid gardener and did her own yard work. She loved animals and will be remembered for the large flocks of guineas she raised. Anita was a former member of Bethany Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, and she also enjoyed the fellowship of First Christian Church Keenagers. Anita also appreciated the good friends with whom she visited daily by phone while living on the farm.
Anita cared for her parents, allowing them to remain at home on the farm until their deaths, Ora T. in 1961 and Mearl in1971. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray Means; and a great-niece, Rhonda Butler.
Survivors include a nephew, Ronnie and his wife Linda Means of Lamar; great-nephews and their wives, Rocky & Julie Means, Lamar and Rodney & Kerri Means, Nevada; eight great-great nephews and nieces; and six great-great-great nephews and nieces.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Lake Cemetery with Rev. Robb Hodson officiating.
