Betty Morey, age 81, of Lamar, Missouri, died Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Truman Healthcare Center. She was born October 12, 1927 to Alfred and Myrtle Thomas at Newport, Missouri.
In 1945, Betty worked at Travelers Hotel in Lamar at a waitress and later at a chicken plant in Lamar breaking eggs to make scrambled eggs for the Army. In 1946 she worked at Jones Drug Store in Lamar. Betty married Orvel Morey, a soldier just returned from the army, February 27, 1947. They bought a farm at Newport and raised cattle, pigs, and chickens.
She was a member of Newport Baptist Church, where she helped with Bible School, and sung at Funerals. Betty was a volunteer worker in the Newport Community, worked with the Barton County Crosslines, helped start Senior Citizens in Lamar, worked as a Pink Lady at Barton County Memorial Hospital. She was also a member of Business & Professional Women Club, member of Calla Rebecka Lodge 160 of Lamar, member of VFW Auxiliary 1850 of Golden City, and a member of Newport Needle Workers Club.
Orvel preceded her in death May 23, 2004 after 57 years of marriage. Betty was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Thomas and Bobby Thomas; two sisters Doris Hackler, and Kathryn Edmonds.
Betty is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Daniel Funeral Home with burial at Newport Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
