Betty L. Kentner, age 90, of Lamar, passed
away Friday, March 26, 2010, at Barton
County Memorial
Hospital.
Betty was born January 28, 1920, in Eaton, Colorado, the third
of the five daughters born to Hayden and Grace (Moore) Sheppard. At the age of five, she moved with her family
to Barton County,
attending grade school in Kenoma and graduating from Lamar High School
in 1937.
On January 31, 1939, at Springfield,
Missouri, Betty married Amos Eugene “Gene”
Kentner and they made their home and farmed near Golden City.
Gene and his beloved “Sally” had celebrated 59 years together before his death
February 17, 1998. Betty was also
preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Mygatt, Gladys Kiloh, and Alberta
Hale.
In addition to being a farm
wife, Betty prepared and served meals for the Lamar Rotary Club for more than
twenty years. She will be remembered by
many for the banquets and holiday parties made special by her wonderful
catering skills. Betty was an accomplished
seamstress and an avid Cardinals Baseball fan, but her favorite pastime was
enjoying her family. She was an active
member of Lamar United Methodist
Church where she sang in
the choir for many years.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law,
Richard & Princess Kentner, Golden City; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon
& Jess Masterson, Carthage; a sister, Margaret Couch, Lamar; ten
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a
large extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Tuesday, March 30th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will
receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in I.O.O.F.
Cemetery in Golden City.
