Betty Tipton

Betty Ann (Massie) Tipton, age 90, passed away at St. Luke's Nursing Center in Carthage, Missouri, after a short illness. She was loved by all who took care of her and was affectionately known as "Miss Betty". Betty was born in rural Ellington, Missouri, on March 6, 1930, to Claude and May (Larkin) Massie. She later moved to Salem, Missouri. Her Freshman year in High School found her living in Malden, Missouri, graduating in 1948. After High School, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri, and attended Miss Hickey's Secretarial School. Upon graduation, she was employed by Ralston Purina. She later met and married Clarence Tipton in August 1952. The family moved to Lamar, Missouri, in 1963 and ran Tipton's Superette Grocery Store for many years. She was the secretary at the Lamar United Methodist Church for eight years. In 1972, she went to work as a teller for the Barton County Bank until her retirement. She and her husband lived on a farm near Golden City, Missouri, from 1975 until 2000, later moving back to Lamar. Betty loved the Lord and her family. She enjoyed traveling, reading, quilting and crocheting in her spare time. She was well known for always thinking of others, sending cards and baked goods to her friends and neighbors She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Debbie of Stotts City, Missouri. A daughter Tracy Rogers and her husband Steve of Rocky Comfort, Missouri. She was blessed with six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Daniel Funeral Home of Lamar, Missouri. She will be cremated with her ashes being buried next to her husband of 63 years, Clarence, in Memory Gardens of Lamar. A Celebration of Life will be observed at a later date. Contributions are suggested and made payable to Lamar Senior Citizen Center or Lamar United Methodist Church in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
