Bonnie Marie Cox, age 69, of Jasper, Missouri, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011 at St. John's Regional Medical Center following a long illness.
Bonnie was born June 7, 1941, at Elsmore, Kansas, the first of the ten children of Francis and Bonnie (Young) North. Never afraid of a challenge, Bonnie became the first woman to work at McNally's Steel Fabrication in Pittsburg, Kansas. She later worked as a clerk at Johnson's General Store in Fredonia, Kansas and Judy's Truck Stop in Jasper for many years. In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Bonnie enjoyed reading and travelling , especially the many memorable trips with her sister, Mary.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Lee, Jr. & Shela Cox of Jasper and Gary, Jr. & Diane Ostrander of Wichita, Kansas; a daughter and her husband, Teresa & Robert McCleary of Parsons, Kansas; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Francis North of Tulsa, Oklahoma, George & Marilyn North, Altoona, Kansas, Estel & Ann North Fredonia, and Kenneth & Editha North, Lincoln, Nebraska; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary Ann Robinson, Owasso, Oklahoma, Hazel & Joe Sears, Derby, Kansas, and Helen & Clyve Pope, Cherokee, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Bonnie North; a son, Larry Cox; a great-granddaughter, Baylee Marie Woods; and two sisters, Mabel North and Margaret Farmer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 8th at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday. A graveside committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Farmington Cemetery near Fredonia Kansas.
