Bruce E. Sweeney

Bruce E. Sweeney, age 92, of rural Lamar, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at his home.      Bruce was born August 19, 1919, in Chase County, Nebraska, one of the ten children of Hiram and Rosa (Daschofsky) Sweeney.  He served in the Army in World War II.  Bruce had lived in Eads, Colorado before moving to Barton County in 1947.  He was a long-time farmer and rancher.  He then met and married Mary Edith Jane Tubaugh in 1958.  Together they had three children and continued farming and raising cattle.      Bruce is survived by two sons, Danny &  Rhonda Sweeney and Doug Sweeney, all of Lamar; a daughter, Diane & Neil Rosenthal, Golden City; nine grandchildren, Tyler & wife Gloria Sweeney, Derek & wife Jill Sweeney, and Dylan Sweeney, all of Lamar, Krista & husband George Charlton, Liberal, Melinda & husband Scott Rice, Lamar, and Summer Sweeney of Raytown, Missouri, Avery, Zoe, & Jason Rosenthal, all of Golden City; three great-grandchildren, George Charlton, Jr. of Liberal, Cesli and Stryker Rice of Lamar. Also surviving are one brother, Clarence & Barbara Sweeney, Jasper; three sisters, Lena Whaley, Eads, Colorado, Faye Ransom, Canyon City, Colorado, and Dorothy Miles, Gillette, Wyoming; many nephews, nieces, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; four brothers, Lee, Ray, Clifford, and Loren Sweeney; and a sister, Grace Branstine.      A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18th at Dudenville Cemetery with military honors conducted by Lamar VFW Post 3691.
