Carol Jeanette (Samp) Jones, age 76, of Jasper, departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, December 6, 2010, at Carthage Health & Rehab after a lengthy illness.
Carol was born March 7, 1934 in Ipswich, SD to Fred John & Bendena Elizabeth (Schutte) Samp. She graduated from Ipswich High School in 1952, and then traveled to Missouri to attend Cottey College in Nevada on a music scholarship.
Carol spent a number of years either working or supervising in school cafeterias from Neosho to Butler, MO, ending her career with retirement from the Jasper R-V Schools in 1988.
She married Cecil Edward Jones on June 26, 1953 at Jerico Springs, MO. He preceded her in death on December 23, 2008. In addition to her husband, Carol was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Howard Samp and Roy Samp.
Carol enjoyed her family, her home and helping others in time of need. She loved cooking, sewing, reading and listening to music or playing the piano. She also loved playing games and entertaining her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carol especially loved the Lord and was a true inspiration in the way she served Him. She was saved and baptized in February of 1953 and joined Hazel Dell Missionary Baptist Church southeast of El Dorado Springs, MO. She moved her membership in 1958 to New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Avilla, MO where she was still an active member.
She is survived by three children and their spouses; Sheila & David Smith of Cabot, AR, Cynthia & Lloyd Chapman of Jasper, and Kevin & Robin Jones of Lebanon, MO; a sister & brother-in-law, Gladys & Edward Nelson of San Angelo, TX, and a sister-in-law, Beryl Samp of Aberdeen, SD; three grandsons, Robert & Brandi Chapman of Neck City, MO, Jeff Chapman of Jasper, Randall & Kariann Smith of Ward, AR; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Gage & Kylie Chapman of Neck City, MO; two nephews, Richard & Diana Heinemeyer of Denver, CO, Ed Jr. & Patty Nelson of San Antonio, TX; two nieces, Lynn Nelson of Triangle, VA, and Lisa & Philip Cope of Charlotte, NC; and a host of extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Chad Wagoner, Carthage Health & Rehab and Regional Hospice of Joplin, MO, for the excellent care Mom received during her illness. You will always hold a very special place in our hearts.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar, MO.
Funeral Services for Carol will be 10:00 am Friday, December 10, 2010 at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, MO. Burial will follow at Hazel Dell Cemetery, southeast of El Dorado Springs, MO.
