Carol D. Robertson, age 93, of Lamar, passed away Sunday evening, January 26, 2014 at Barton County Memorial Hospital.
Carol was born July 6, 1920 at Liberal, Missouri, one of the four children of Taylor and Bertha (Comby) Palmer. After graduating from Liberal High School in 1938, she earned a teaching certificate from Springfield State Teachers College and taught at North Star country school and Liberal Elementary for several years. On August 12, 1943 at Oakland, California Carol married John E. Robertson, Jr. and they had made their home in Oakland, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Louisburg, Kansas, and Springfield, Missouri before moving to Lamar in 1970. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Carol made every place they lived a loving and inviting home and was looking forward to welcoming her 23rd great-grandbaby to the family in March. She was a talented artist and pianist, and an accomplished seamstress. Many will continue to enjoy the abundance of Barbie doll clothes, tablecloths, crocheted projects and needlework gifts she enjoyed sharing with family and friends. She had been a member of the Louisburg American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Judy Loch, Oswego, Illinois, Becky (David) Blackford, Lamar, and Sandy (Earl) Karas, Warrensburg; a sister, Henrietta Callen, Lockwood; nine grandchildren, John (Jessica) Loch, Jeff (Angie) Loch, Jennifer (Mike) Elliott, Krysti Fisher, John (Jennifer) Karas, Michael Blackford, Megan (Doug) Stefan, Carla (Kurt) Swartz and Tim (Michelle) Blackford; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John December 20, 1999; and two brothers, Gerald and Harl Palmer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Iantha Cemetery.
