Charles Royal Brooks, age 89, of Lamar, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017, at his home following a short illness.
Charlie was born December 14, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Leslie and Dorothy Brooks. On August 31, 1952, at St. James Church near Milford, Missouri, he married the love of his life, Ina Mae Kelley. They made their home in Lamar where Charlie worked for the Missouri Highway Department for 36 years. They were devoted members of Lamar United Methodist Church and could always be counted on to help wherever there was a need. With his gentle nature and big heart, Charlie naturally made people a priority and delighted in the fellowship of family and friends. He was a Lamar Tiger fan and enjoyed following his grandkids ball games. Charlie was an animal lover and especially appreciated the companionship of his two dogs, Blackie and Bailey.
Charlie and Ina Mae had shared 63 years together before she passed away September 22, 2015. He was also preceded in death by their son, Bill Brooks; and two sisters, Betty Anderson-Bittleston and Bonnie Anzai.
Survivors include two sons, Tim (Lori) Brooks and Charles Brooks, all of Lamar; a daughter, Sandra Brooks, Eldon, Missouri, daughter-in-law, Patti Brooks, Lamar; two half-sisters, Billie Bruggeman, Norwalk, Connecticut and Anita Osborne, Cheyenne, Wyoming; four grandchildren, Seth, Kathleen, Cara, and Hannah Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Gustavo and Tony Ibarra-Brooks; and a great-niece, Ashlyn Sisk.
