Dee
Wirts
Delores Marie “Dee” Wirts, age 79, of
Lamar, passed away Tuesday, February
10, 2009, at Truman Healthcare
Center following a long illness.
Dee was born June 21, 1929, at Carterville,
Missouri, to Wilber and Wilma (Dickey) Mayfield. A long-time Lamar resident, Dee had worked as
a cook at Hillcrest Lanes for many years.
She was an avid bowler, joining many leagues and competing in numerous
tournaments throughout the years. On December 18, 1983, in Lamar, Dee
married Floyd “Frog” Wirts, and they owned and operated the Lamar Tavern on the
west side of the square.
Floyd preceded Dee
in death March 2, 2008. She was also preceded by her parents and a
sister, Mary Lou Mayfield.
Survivors include two sons, Leon & his
wife Linda Bishop, and Larry Bishop, all of Lamar; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn &
Billie Ray Parnell, Lockwood, and Mel & Steve Binam, Jasper; a step-son,
Kyle & his wife Carol Wirts, California, Missouri; two step-daughters and
their husbands, Bonnie & Bill Hinman, Joplin, and Lois & Tony Bowley,
Tucson, Arizona; a sister, Charlene Conover, Fontana, California; twelve
grandchildren; fourteen step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven
step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00
p.m. Sunday, February 15th at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Barton
City Cemetery
at a later date.
