Donald Fetterly

Donald Dorin Fetterly, age 92, of Lamar, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, at Barton County Memorial Hospital following a long illness.      Don was born March 27, 1920 at Mapleton, Kansas, to George and Mary (Nelson) Fetterly.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Earl Taylor.      After graduating from Fulton High School in Bourbon County, Kansas, Don worked for the Frisco Railroad in Fort Scott, Kansas.  A month before the declaration of World War II, Don entered the U.S. Navy, serving through 1945 aboard the USS Castor, USS George F. Elliot and USS Aristaeus.  Returning home, he began his long farming career and also worked as a supervisor for Peerless Products in Fort Scott until retiring in 1993.  Always active in his community, Don was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church, Lamar V.F.W., and Lamar Masonic Lodge.  He will be remembered by many for his quick wit and warm smile.    On June 7, 1951, in Fort Scott, Don married Betty Jean Noggle and she survives of the home.  Also surviving are two daughters, Dawn Garrett, Lamar and Lesa Perkins, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two sisters, Betty Gardella, Sutter Creek, California, and Andressa Clark, Tulsa; seven grandchildren, Jessica Amico, Travis Garrett, Anthony Garrett, Max Bohlken, Wade Johnson, Joe Garrett, and Ashley Garrett; and an especially close friend and neighbor, Bob McManis.      The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 5th at Daniel Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 6th at Lamar United Methodist Church.  A committal service with full military honors will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Fort Scott National Cemetery.      Memorial contributions are suggested to the Respiratory Department of Barton County Memorial Hospital or Lamar United Methodist Church in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
