Donald Jerome Zastrow, Sr., age 81, of
Lamar, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Truman Healthcare
Center.
Donald was born December 19, 1928, at Hamill, South
Dakota, the youngest of the 12 children of August F.
and Anna Marie (Simmons) Zastrow. He
served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On December 19, 1954, at Custer,
South Dakota, Donald married Cecilia
E. Parre and they traveled far and wide to accommodate Donald’s career in heavy/highway
construction. Donald and Cecilia made
their home in various locations in the United
States, including Puerto Rico and South
America. After retiring
from construction, they made their home in Lamar, and Donald worked for Murphy
Farms. He was a member of St. Mary’s
Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years,
Cecilia, of Independence, Missouri; a son and daughter-in-law, Don, Jr. &
Dona Zastrow, Independence; a daughter and son-in-law, Marie & Jerry Mann,
Tampa, Florida; two brothers and their wives, Joe & Vera Zastrow, Wessington
Springs, South Dakota, and Matt & Fern Zastrow, Sioux Falls, South Dakota;
two sisters, Betty Keselring, Dakota City, Nebraska, and Ann Clark, LeMars,
Iowa; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.
