Donna Mae Harvey

Donna Mae Harvey, age 86, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.      Donna Mae was born November 21, 1926, at Milford, one of the three children of Othal and Mae (Wagaman) Gardner.  A life-long Barton County resident, Donna graduated from Lamar High School in 1943 and earned a teaching certificate from Pittsburg State.  After teaching in the rural schools of Milford, Irwin, and Oakton for thirteen years she worked in Liberal Public Schools from 1976 until retiring in 2000.  An accomplished musician, Donna taught private piano lessons to many students throughout the years.  She had been an active member of  the Christian Church of Liberal.  After moving to Lamar in 2001, Donna Mae became a member of Lamar United Methodist Church where she participated in JOY fellowship.  Donna Mae's cheerful disposition, abundant energy, and genuine hospitality will be missed by her fellow Red Hatters, Retired Teachers, those in the Reading Club as well as her countless neighbors and friends.  She also shared her time volunteering as a Pink Lady at Barton County Memorial Hospital.      In 1950, Donna Mae married Norval Lee Robinson who died May 10, 1952 while in the military.  On August 23, 1955, at Lamar, she married Charles "Chub" Harvey and he preceded her in death April 22, 1983.  She was also preceded by her parents and her brother, Wayne "Buzzy" Gardner.      Survivors include two sons and their wives, Mike & Brenda Harvey of Lamar and Bill & Bobbi Harvey of Liberal; a sister, Dorothy Faubion, Lamar; two sisters-in-law, Helen Gardner, Lamar and Hazel Wingert, Ottawa, Kansas; four grandchildren, Brooke (Casey) Wiss and Brant (Erin) Harvey all of Lamar, and Miranda and Trevor Harvey of Liberal; four great-grandchildren, Stetson, Zavrie, & Maddix Wiss and Knox Harvey; a special friend, Jack Kirk, Lamar; and a large extended family.      Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 26th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.      Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
