Dora Geraldine (Young) Bunn was born on February 26, 1928, and peacefully departed for a better place on November 3, 2023, after a brief stay at Freeman Hospital.
Whether you knew her as Geraldine or Dora, her presence left an indelible mark on the countless lives she touched over her 95 years. Maybe you recall her as a young mother, active in her church, PTA or 4-H; maybe you remember her from a ride in the Carthage Courthouse elevator; maybe you were the recipient of one of the thousands of cards she sent to family and friends.
She was a farm girl born to Herman Martin & Florence Rose (Kuenhle) Young and grew up alongside her siblings, Nadine Young MacNaughton, Norma Jean Young, Charles Young, and Clifford Young, all of whom preceded her in death. Her life was not easy, but she was brave and made it good. Geraldine graduated high school during the Great Depression, embarked on a road trip adventure to Texas, and worked on the Ford Motor Company assembly line in Michigan during WWII.
Back in Jasper, her life took a beautiful turn when taking food to a threshing crew on the neighboring farm where she met the love of her life Harlan David Bunn, Jr. They married on December 31, 1949, in Greenbriar, AR, and shared 37 years of marriage until Harlan's passing in 1986. Together, they raised three children: Judy Bunn Mevius (Mesquite, TX), Richard Alan Bunn (Jasper, MO; deceased), and Jerry Wayne Bunn (Jasper, MO). Jerry's devoted wife, Kathleen Bunn, became a cherished daughter by marriage, enriching the family bond with her endless love and care.
As much as her children were treasured, the arrival of three grandchildren and later five great-grandchildren, brought her true joy. She loved sharing their lives and milestones whether she was physically near them or not. She cherished every moment with Jason Mevius, wife Jessica and son William of McKinney, TX; Austin Bunn, wife Lisa and son Skyler and daughter Halli of Joplin, MO; and Amanda Bunn Jones and daughters Kadynce and Ayvrie of Troutman, NC.
In addition to her family, Geraldine is survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Lois Young, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Geraldine's faith was a cornerstone of her life, leading her to Christ as a young mother and guiding her family in the same direction. She was an active member of the Jasper Christian Church, where she found solace and support, and where she shared her unwavering faith with others.
A funeral service to celebrate Geraldine's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 8, 2023, at Jasper Christian Church. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects starting at 10:00 a.m. until the service begins. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Geraldine's memory can be made to Jasper Christian Church or Mitchell Cemetery Association.
