Dr. Dorothy F. Roberts, age 98, died at Truman Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Lamar, Missouri on January 14, 2020. The daughter of Ollie E. and Fay (Grim) Roberts, she was born January 16, 1921, in Jasper, MO. In 1932 the family moved to Lamar, MO, where she graduated from Lamar High School. She also attended and graduated from Park College, Parkville, MO. (A.B.) University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois. (PhD.) and Columbia University School of Law, New York City, New York (LLB.)During World War II she worked for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation (UNRRA) in Washington, D.C., then in Occupied Germany in the UNRRA Displaced Persons Program.She briefly practiced law in Lamar, MO, during which time she served as the first Juvenile Officer of the 28th Judicial Circuit.She taught at various schools at various times, including the University of Connecticut, Storrs and Hartford, CT.; the University of Maryland; military bases in Germany and Italy; American University, Washington, D.C. and Davis and Elkins College, Elkins, West Virginia. She traveled extensively in the United States and abroad. She enjoyed reading, bridge and the theater. She was a member and / or officer at various times of the American and West Virginia Political Science Association; American Association of University Professors; Missouri Bar; West Virginia Humanities Council; Missouri Juvenile Association; Missouri and Barton County Democratic Committees, Barton County Library Board; Arts Council of Barton County and Lamar Country Club.Her parents; sister, Pauline Fleetwood, Belton, MO and brother, Elwood Roberts, Lamar, MO, preceded her in death.She is survived by nephew, David (Teresa) Roberts; nieces, Carol Reavley and Ann (Judd) Chesnut all of Lamar, MO, five great nephews, five great nieces and many great-great nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Daniel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 p.m. after the service.Contributions may be made payable to the Barton County Library, Barton County Senior Center, Nathan's Place, or a charity of one's choice.
