Edward Terrell Bennett, age 86, of Lamar,
passed away Thursday, November 13,
2008, at Truman Healthcare
Center following a long illness.
Ed was born July 4, 1922, at Attica, Kansas,
to Charles Franklin and Eva (Voss) Bennett.
He graduated from Golden City
High School in 1940 and immediately
went to work for the CCC in Eldora, Iowa. Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving
in several capacities at various naval stations during his 30 year career. His home port was in Norfolk,
Virginia where he was a member and served
as a deacon in Burrows Memorial
Baptist Church. He was a member of the V.F.W., American
Legion, and F.R.A. Ed was an excellent
athlete who enjoyed baseball and had earned many bowling trophies.
On May
20, 1944, at Girard, Kansas,
Ed married Betty Durman and to this union a son, Terrell Gene and a daughter,
Mary Suzanne were born. They later
divorced and on December 27, 1984,
at Miami, Oklahoma,
Ed married JuliAnn Jenkins Embry.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years,
JuliAnn, of the home; three sons, Terry & wife Sharon Bennett, Chesapeak,
Virginia, William Ben & wife Crystal Embry, Malden, Missouri, and Dan
Embry, Lamar; five daughters, Mary & husband Robert Carpenter, Modest,
Virginia, Shirley & husband Bill Gaither, Lamar, Betty Embry, Joplin,
Jeannie & husband Jerry Thieman, Lamar, and Sherry Embry, Springfield,
Missouri; 29 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00
p.m. Sunday at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar. A graveside funeral service with full
military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Monday, November 17th at Missouri
Veterans Cemetery,
Springfield, Missouri.
