Edwin Van Dorn

Edwin L. Van Dorn, age 69, of Mindenmines, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Landmark Hospital in Joplin.        Edwin was born June 3, 1939, in Lamar, Missouri, to Harry and Hazel (Corben) Van Dorn. Edwin joined the U.S. Army in 1964 and served in Germany.  In addition to farming, he had worked for various factories including Harvest Brand, Vinylplex, and Castlegate.  Edwin was an accomplished guitarist and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and shooting with his grandchildren.  He had been a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in rural Liberal.        On June 18, 1966, at Pleasant View Baptist Church, Edwin married Judy Smith, and she survives, of the home.  Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Treva & Kevin Collier, Mindenmines, and Paula & Craig Short, Bentonville, Arkansas; two brothers, Harry Lee Van Dorn, Asbury, Missouri, and Carl Van Dorn, Mulvane, Kansas; two sisters, Virginia Turner, Sheldon, Missouri, and Marie Crank, Hutchinson, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Brad, Josh, & Adam Collier, Travis, Nic, and Kayla Short; and several nephews and nieces.  Edwin was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Van Dorn and Richard Van Dorn.        A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 1st, at Nashville Cemetery with military honors conducted by Liberal VFW.        Memorial contributions are suggested to the Van Dorn family to help with medical expenses and may be sent to Daniel Funeral Home.
