Ethel A. Metcalf

Ethel Alice Metcalf, age 90, of Lamar, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Barton County Memorial Hospital following an illness of several years.        Ethel was born March 10, 1919 at Pittsburg, Kansas, the sixth of the seven children of Will and Josie (Bastian) Corbin.  In December of 1940 Ethel married Earl Metcalf and he preceded her in death August 28, 1974.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers: a sister; and a granddaughter, Debby.        Ethel was a homemaker who enjoyed interior decorating, yard work and gardening, especially flowers.  She took great pleasure in helping the elderly after moving to Lamar in 1977.  Ethel attended Lamar Church of Christ for many years.        Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard & Lela Metcalf, Jasper, Missouri; a daughter and son-in-law, Marlene & Larry Cox; five grandchildren, Ken, Terry, Julie, Danny, and Della; and eight great-grandchildren, Brayden, Xander, Hailey, Hillary, Kealon, Kyler, Kaleb and Chloe..        A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12th at Nashville Cemetery under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.
