Floyd A. Joyce

Floyd Allen Joyce, age 83, formerly from Lamar, died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Dade County Nursing Home in Greenfield, MO. Floyd was born June 22, 1929 in Boston, MO to Harry Floyd "Cap" and Leah (Arner) Joyce.  He attended country school for seven years at the Boston school and graduated from Lamar High School in 1946. In 1947, he married Deane Greiner, and she now lives in Springfield, MO. He then went to MSU in Springfield, MO where he played football, basket ball, and track and graduated in 1950.    Floyd worked at IMCO Plastics, Bendix Corporation and Ford Motor Company, all in Kansas City, MO.  He also worked in the Lamar School System as a teacher and a coach and had taught at Rich Hill and Eldorado Springs, MO. Floyd worked as a Realtor at Century 21, worked for Barton County Mutual and also served on their board.  He had also been married to Lou Nell Gshwiller-Joyce and Sherleen Sorden-Joyce. He was a member of the Lions, Optimist and Rotary and volunteered with the Little League, and Boy Scouts.  Floyd was an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir.  Survivors include three sons, Michael Joyce of Pittsburg, KS, Jim Joyce of Ashville, NC, and Damon Joyce of Fayetteville, AR; one daughter, Beth Young of Springfield, MO; and five grandchildren.  Floyd was proud of the fact that several nephews and grandsons carried his middle name "Allen". Preceding him in death were his parents; one infant brother; four sisters, Irma Lee Joyce, who served as a missionary in Africa for 37 years, Jewell Gardner, Jean Joyce, and Ann Etta Joyce. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 pm Wednesday, September 5, 2012. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Daniel Funeral Home with Rev. Robb Hodson officiating.  A private committal service will be in Forest Grove Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to Lamar First Baptist Church in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
