Floyd Grant Humes, age 81, of Lamar, Missouri, peacefully passed away on April 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Cox Health in Springfield, Missouri.
Floyd was born on August 18, 1943, in Alva, Oklahoma, to Claude and Juanita (Shepler) Humes. He graduated from Lamar High School with the Class of 1962. Shortly after, he began working at Steadley’s in Carthage, Missouri, before starting a lifelong career at O’Sullivan Industries in 1966. Floyd retired in 2007 after 45 years of dedicated service.
On May 26, 1967, Floyd married his life-long sweetheart, Linda Kay Holt, in Lamar. Together, they built a beautiful life and welcomed their daughter Krista in 1971 and son Brad in 1973.
Floyd was a true car enthusiast who especially loved showing off his prized Mustang at local car shows. He rarely missed a Lamar Tigers football game on Friday nights, and he took great pride in mowing his yard just right. A good cup of coffee, a passionate political conversation, and time spent with loved ones were among his favorite things. Though he was a devoted husband and father, Floyd’s most cherished role was being “Papa.” He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all his heart.
Floyd is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 58 years, Linda of Lamar; daughter Krista and her husband Stephen of Lamar; son Brad and his fiance Carolina of Tontitown, Arkansas; and a niece who was like a daughter, Jessica Main. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Tyler White, Trevor White (Brynn), Alician Humes (Reed Leasure), Jillian Humes (Ayden Hawes), Joshua Gilbert, Josiha Gilbert, Samuel Gober, and Luciana Reyes. Floyd was blessed with great-grandchildren: Addie, Aynslie, Ackston, Joey, and baby Maggie, expected in June.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Earl, Junior, and Sam; and two sisters, Lillian and Nora.
A private family service will be held.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, Missouri.
