George Franklin Foster, age 75, of Lamar,
passed away Friday, October 3, 2008
at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.
George was born August 18, 1933, at Kansas
City, Missouri, the only child
of Claud and Julia (Strickler) Foster.
After graduating from North East
High School in Kansas
City, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 until
1956. George continued his education,
earning a bachelor’s degree from Wichita
State and a masters degree from
Missouri Central State College. He
taught industrial arts at Westport High
School in Kansas City,
Greenfield High School
and Lamar High School
for a total of 30 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Lamar.
On May
29, 1952, at Kansas City, Missouri,
George married Charlene M. Howard, and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Mark & wife Kris
Ann Foster, Olathe, Kansas; three daughters, Diana Rutledge, Joplin, Terri
& husband Terry Siems, Leavenworth, Kansas, and Angela & husband John
Bryant, Sheldon; eleven grandchildren, Emily McGrew, George Siems, Adam Siems,
Amanda Thomas, Alicia Gardner, Ryan Foster, Nick Foster, Josh Foster, Amber
Rutledge, John Bryant, Travis Bryant; and four great-grandchildren, Avalon
McGrew, Kinleigh Gardner, Billy Foster, and Lily Thomas.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 11th at
The First Christian Church in Lamar with Rob Wilson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Lamar
V.F.W. Post 3691.
