Harvey Russell Letton, age 77, of Lamar,
passed away at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Barton County
Memorial Hospital
following a long illness.
Harvey was
born November 21, 1932, at Nashville, Missouri, to Russell and Grace (Taylor) Letton. He attended a one-room, eight-grade school at
North Star and graduated from Mindenmines
High School in 1950. He worked on the family farm until entering
the U.S. Army February 3, 1953. After
two years of active duty in the U.S.
and France, Harvey
served in the Army Reserve until 1961.
On March 1, 1955, at Nashville,
Harvey married Donna Jones and they made their
home and farmed in Barton
County for more than 50
years. After retiring in 1998, they
moved to Lamar. Harvey was a faithful member of Nashville
Christian Church where he served as an elder and taught Sunday school. He was a member of Jasper V.F.W. Post 6415.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, of the
home; three sons, Robert & wife Brigitte Letton, Woodland Hills, California,
Donald Letton, Denver, Colorado, and Brian & wife Bonnie Letton, Pecatonica,
Illinois; a sister, Celia Good, rural Pittsburg, Kansas; a cousin, William
Taylor, Pittsburg; and two granddaughters, Wia Yea and Grace Letton, the light
of his life.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Friday, January 22nd at Nashville Christian Church. Burial will be in Nashville Cemetery
with military honors conducted by Jasper VFW Post 6415.
The family will receive friends from 6:00
until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar.
