Inez Quackenbush, age 94, of Lamar, passed
away Sunday, October 25, 2009, at Barton
County Memorial
Hospital.
Inez was born July 27, 1915, in Lamar, to
Barney and Myrtle (Garrett) Crockett. On
December 26, 1940, in Girard,
Kansas, Inez married Ray M.
Quackenbush. Inez worked at her brother,
Walter’s grocery store in Irwin for several years before she and Ray purchased
it, renamed it Quackenbush Grocery and operated it for twenty years. Inez was also the Milford Postmaster for many
years. She was an active member of First
Christian Church of Lamar; and was an accomplished pianist who enjoyed gospel
music.
Ray and Inez had celebrated fifty-nine
years together at the time of his death, August 29, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a daughter,
Jane Peters; a grandson, Brent Peters; and two brothers, Everett and Walter
Crockett.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Gerald
& wife Nancy Peters, Lamar; a sister, Betty Boles, Lamar; two sisters-in-law,
Marjorie Jones, Liberal, and Jean Crockett, Lamar; a grandson, Greg & wife
Alla Peters, Carl Junction; a granddaughter-in-law, Laura Peters, Lamar; two
great-granddaughters, Cesily Peters and Darla Irwin; and two great-great-grandchildren,
Allison Tiller and Kelsi Lawrence.
