Juanita Hobbs

Juanita M. Hobbs, age 70, of Lamar, passed away Friday, July 1, 2011, at her home following a long illness.      Juanita was born July 10, 1940 at Kingsport, Tennessee, one of the three daughters of Harvey and Violet (Dolen) Rowland.  After graduating from Fall Branch High School in 1958, Juanita enlisted in the Navy where she trained as a hospitalist (LPN) and served in Navy hospitals.  As a  civilian, she continued her career in the medical field, working as a respiratory therapist for hospitals in Lamar, Mt. Vernon and Paris, Texas.      On December 31, 1981 at Lamar, she married James Hobbs, who owned and operated a  construction company.  For the next 15 years, they traveled with the construction industry, making their home in many different parts of the United States.  In 1995 they retired to rural Lamar, where Juanita continued to be a generous care-giver, wonderful homemaker, and anchor of her family.  She enjoyed crochet and yard-work, especially mowing.        Survivors include her husband, Jim, of the home; three sons and their wives, Lee & Melissa Cox, Carterville, James & Jessica Hobbs, Cambridge, Nebraska, and Albert & Kristy Hobbs, Virginia Beach, Virginia; a daughter, Tammy McKinsey, North Platte, Nebraska; two sisters, Ellen Wineinger, Lamar, and Shirley Hood, Boonsville, Maryland; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nieces, Brenda Streiner and Pamela Wineinger, both of Lamar; and a large extended family.  She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Cox June 7, 2008.      A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
