Katy Baston

Catherina Catherine "Katy" Baston, age 84, of Iantha, Missouri, passed away early Thursday morning, August 8, 2013 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.      Katy was born May 30, 1929 at Rich Hill, Missouri to Elmer and Elma (Vogt) Perry.  She married Claude Baston and they made their home and raised their three children in Iantha.  Claude preceded her in death July 19, 2009.  She was also  preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill Perry.      Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Rick & Charlotte Baston, Birch Tree, Missouri; two daughters, Susie Baston Marti, Iantha and Pat Baston, Springfield, Missouri; her sister-in-law, Claudia Perry, Springfield;  nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.      An avid gardener, Katy canned an abundance of produce and appreciated the beauty of her flower beds.  Her many neighbors and friends will remember the roses and crepe myrtles that flourished under her care.  She had a fondness for cats and pampered many throughout her life.  She was a wonderful and hospitable homemaker who was always ready and willing to help others at every opportunity.  Katy's heart belonged to her family and she was a devoted and loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother.       A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Iantha Cemetery with Rev. Lee Shaver officiating.      The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.      Memorial contributions are suggested to the Good Samaritan Shop in care of the funeral home.
