LaVerne Mason

LaVerne Florence Mason, age 77, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away of an apparent heart attack while vacationing with family in Florida.      LaVerne was born December 27, 1939, in Portland, Oregon, to Bill and Dorothy (Cheatham) Wiseman.  On November 15, 1958, at Stevenson, Washington, she married Harlan A. Mason and they lived in several states before settling in Barton County, Missouri in 1970.  In addition to being a devoted wife and dedicated mother, LaVerne pursued and achieved her goal of becoming a nurse, earning certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  A natural and compassionate caregiver, she was gifted in geriatrics and provided comfort to nursing home residents in Lamar for more than 30 years.  In retirement, LaVerne most enjoyed time spent with family, the fellowship of friends, and watching the birds she diligently fed all year round.      After sharing nearly 45 years, Harlan preceded LaVerne in death April 16, 2003.  She was also preceded by her parents, Bill and Dorothy Wiseman.      Survivors include her children, Diane (Marty) Heggen, Colville, Washington, Randy (Donna) Mason, Lamar; Vicky (Jim) Bailey, Jacksonville, Florida and Pam (Corky) Stephens, Lamar; a brother, Don (Barbara) Wiseman, Portland, Oregon; a sister, Deloris (Bob) Shaw, Gresham, Oregon; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.      The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8th at Daniel Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 9th at Daniel Funeral Home followed by burial in Lake Cemetery.      To support a cause dear to LaVerne, memorial contributions are suggested to Truman Healthcare Activities Fund.
