Lois Duncan, age 87, of rural Lamar,
passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Truman Healthcare
Center.
Lois was born November 19, 1929, in Barton County
to Jesse and Ethel (Mead) Lowe. On January 26, 1946, at Girard,
Kansas, she married Bob Duncan and they made
their home and farmed in Barton
County. They had shared 57 years together before his
passing on February 21, 2003. Lois was
also preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Ralph Duncan, Pete
Amparan, and Eugene Robertson; sisters-in-law, Reba Duncan, Wanda Duncan,
Viola Duncan, Esther Wilhelm, and Alice Robertson; and two nephews, Mike Estes and Stanley
Robertson.
In addition to being a devoted wife,
mother, and grandmother, Lois was a hard-working farmwife who met every challenge
with determination and perseverance. She
had also worked in town through the years at Big Smith, O’Sullivan Industries,
and Rogers Lures. Her gift of hospitality was evident to everyone she welcomed
around her table at home as well as the Rotarians who looked forward to Tuesday
lunch for many years. Loving the
outdoors, Lois could often be found on a tractor in the hayfield, mowing her
yard, working in her large gardens, attending to farm animals, or fishing at a
pond. Not one to be idle, her indoor
time was spent cooking, sewing, quilting, or working on embroidery projects to
share with family and friends.
Survivors include her son and daughter,
Jim (Terri) Duncan and Linda (Larry) Robertson, Lamar; three grandchildren,
Kevin Robertson (fiancé, Lisa Greenfeather), Jason Duncan, and Kristy
Robertson, all of Lamar; her sister, Helen Amparan, Las Vegas, Nevada; and two
brothers-in-law, Glen Duncan, Lamar, and Orville Duncan, Golden City; and a
large extended family.
A graveside funeral service will be held
at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 7th, at Morehead Cemetery
with Mike Gage officiating.
Memorial contributions are suggested to
Barton County Meals on Wheels in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
