Mabel
Ward-Robbins, age 86 of Lamar, died Thursday October 1, 2009, at Freeman
Hospital West after a sudden illness.
Mabel was born April 2, 1923 at Howard, KS
to Robert F. and Audra G. “Utt” Hassard.
She graduated High School at Cedar Vale, KS and attended college for 1
year. On May 29, 1942 she married Lyle
M. Ward, and together they had 3 children.
After Lyle preceded her in death
July 15, 1992, she married O. Curtis Robbins, February 12, 1995. He
preceded her in death April 13, 2003.
Before moving to
Lamar 7 years ago, Mabel worked for a number of years as a bookkeeper for Misch
& Sons Printing Company in Coffeyville,
KS. She was an active member of the First Baptist
Church of Lamar, involved in Vacation
Bible School,
a member of YAH (Young At Heart) and YAH Crafters, a member of Surviving
Spouses Group and Single Ladies Group, and she enjoyed and excelled at solving
cryptogram puzzles. She was also
volunteered at the Lamar High School Library.
She is survived
by a son, Robert & René Ward, of Aurora, MO; a daughter, Rhonda &
Patrick Ward Ross, of Lamar; four granddaughters, Darci & Zack Kent, of
Fayetteville, AR, Erin & Brandon Johnson, of Joplin, MO, Tiffany &
William Stephens, Ft. Bragg, NC, & Kristin Ward & fiancé Chase
McChesney, of Kansas City, MO; three great-grandchildren, Zeke Stephens, Isaiah
Stephens, and Gavin Johnson; and one brother George H. Hassard MD, of Port
Aransas, TX
Mabel was
preceded by her parents, her husband’s Lyle Ward and Curtis Robbins, and a son
Ronald Max Ward.
Funeral Services
for Mabel will be 10:00 am, Monday October, 5, 2009 at Daniel Funeral
Home. Burial will be 3:00 pm Monday at Round Mound
Cemetery, Cedar Vale, KS.
