Marianna Janis Tanner, age 83, of Lamar, passed away Friday, September 3, 2010 at her home following a long illness.
Marianna was born December 7, 1926, in Barton County, Missouri, to Fay and Helen (Fuhr) Springer and was raised by her mother, Helen, and step-father, Glen Wilson. In 1944, she graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri. Using her excellent bookkeeping skills, Marianna worked in various offices including Sears in Kansas City. After moving to Lamar, she served as Lamar City Township Collector and was the bookkeeper for Aarons Poultry, Tanner Construction and Steve’s Repair Service for many years. Marianna was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
On June 4, 1959, at Miami, Oklahoma, Marianna married Curtis “Jack” Tanner, and they had celebrated 50 years together before his death October 7, 2009. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Rex Springer, and a half-brother, Willis Wilson.
Survivors include a son, Steve Tanner, Lamar; two step-daughters, Candace Tanner & husband James Allen, Destin, Florida, and Lucinda Howard, Richardson, Texas; and three step-grandchildren, Shaun & Joel Howard, and Tiffany Torgan.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7th at Lake Cemetery with Rev. Galen Friedrichs officiating.
