Michael L. Miller was the firstborn child of Alex A. Miller and Ruth J. (Leach) Miller in Uniontown, PA on January 10, 1943. Mike was the oldest of three children having a younger sister, Cheryl, and a younger brother, Allan. He graduated from Uniontown High School in 1960 and went on to Penn State University on an academic scholarship from Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation, graduating in 1964 with a degree in chemical engineering. During his career, Mike had the opportunity to work with several different companies in the industrial gas industry around the country. These included Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in Steubenville, Ohio, The Great Plains Coal Gasification Plant in Beulah, North Dakota, AIRCO Industries, and the Compressed Gas Association in Washington, DC. In 1965, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Margaret "Peg" Ann Romesburg. From this union, they were blessed with three sons: Dr. Erik M. Miller of Lamar, Missouri; Brett J. Miller of Lamar, Missouri; and Dr. Kirk A. Miller of Kansas City, Missouri. They blessed Mike with four granddaughters and two grandsons: Brianna and Gabi, daughters of Dr. Erik Miller and Brenda (McDaniel) Miller; Carmen and Wilson, daughter and son of Brett Miller and Marsha (Swavely) Miller; and Simon and Eva, son and daughter of Dr. Kirk Miller and Stephanie (Brown) Miller. Mike began to experience serious health issues in his mid-50s. To be closer to his children and grandchildren, he and Peg moved to Lamar, Missouri in 1999. Through divine healing and the attentive care of Dr. Erik Miller, Mike was able to resume a productive life while in Lamar. He served on the city council and helped to establish the “Gifts for Jesus” charity. Understanding the importance of education, Mike established and helped to personally fund several education and merit scholarships at Oakton United Methodist Church, Jefferson County Christian School in Steubenville, Ohio, and Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania. Mike always believed that God provides unique gifts to all of us. Though not the same or in equal portion, he felt that we all have the responsibility to use these gifts to serve others until we go “home”. Just because someone is older or infirmed, this should not hinder them from finding ways to use the gifts they have. Mike learned that you cannot out-give God. The more you are a blessing to others, the more blessings God will pour out to you.
