Myron N. McWilliams

Myron Neil McWilliams, age 92, of rural Asbury, Missouri, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, Kansas.       Myron was born May 22, 1919 at Hannon, Missouri to Lloyd and Charlotte McWilliams.  He moved to Jasper County, Missouri with his parents and siblings in 1932.  He lived in the Nashville/Asbury, Missouri area the rest of his life with the exception of time he served in military service.      He attended Jasper High School, Jasper, Missouri, graduating from there in 1937.  As a member of the Future Farmers of America, he received the degree of State Farmer in 1936.      Myron proudly served his country four years in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He was inducted August 8, 1941 and honorably discharged October 20, 1945.  He was sent overseas October 21, 1943 where he was engaged in the Battles of Rhineland, Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe and Ardennes, receiving five bronze stars and the Good Conduct Medal for his service.  He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.      After serving his country, Myron returned to farming and in 1972, bought a small farm near Nashville, Missouri.  He began truck farming and gardening, growing delicious vegetables and fruits.  His favorite activity was selling his produce at the various Farmer’s Markets and other locations in the area, meeting people, and sharing his harvest of wonderful garden produce.  He also generously shared them with his many friends and relatives.  Myron was also employed by P and M Coal Company for several years, retiring from there in 1985.      Myron was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; one step-son, Jim Leibbrand; his parents; two sisters, Margaret Sisseck and Evelyn McClanahan.      He leaves behind two brothers, Warren of  Asbury, Missouri and Roy Gene of Gladstone, Missouri; one sister, Dorothy and husband, Leonard Mansfield of Licking, Missouri; one step-son, Steve Leibbrand and wife Linda of Carthage, Missouri; one step-daughter, Cheryl Brock of Grandview, MO; one step-daughter-in-law, Rita Leibbrand of Mindenmines, Missouri; many step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and special friend, Nadeene Stewart of Joplin.      Myron never met a stranger and was loved by everyone who knew him.  He will be sadly missed and respectfully remembered by the many friends and relatives in the community he loved so much.      The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 18th at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar.      A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 19th, at Nashville Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Jasper VFW Post  6415.      Memorial contributions are suggested to Nashville Cemetery or Jasper VFW Post 6415 in care of Daniel Funeral Home.      Condolences may be sent at www.danielfuneralhome.net
