Norman Dale Garber

Norman D. Garber, age 68, of Cocoa, Florida, a former long-time Barton County resident, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010 at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Springfield.       Norman was born January 14, 1942 in rural Montevallo, Missouri, to Otis and Violet (Brasher) Garber.  He graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1959 and worked on a survey crew for the Missouri Highway Department while attending Rolla School of Mines and Metallurgy.  Norman then worked for the F.B.I. in St. Louis and Kansas City for eight years.  In 1973 he moved to Barton County where he farmed and worked as a rural mail carrier in Sheldon and Jerico Springs for 23 years.  He retired in 2003 and moved to Cocoa, Florida in 2006.       As a young adult, Norman trusted in Jesus as his savior and was a faithful follower all his life.  He served as an elder at Milford Christian Church where he attended for 20 years and had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Lamar for 13 years.  Most recently, Norman attended Liberty Baptist Church while in Missouri and the Cocoa Calvary Baptist Church while in Florida.  His life portrayed his devotion to his God, his wife, Dotti, and all of his family. Always active in his community, he was the former director of the Sheldon Farmland Coop Board and had served as a Trustee on the Milford Township Road Board.        On August 11, 1962, at Lamar, Missouri, Norman married Dorthy “Dotti” Mayse, and she survives, of the home.  Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Fanny Garber, Aurora, Colorado; a brother, Don Garber, Milo, Missouri; a sister Betty June Murrah, Cocoa, Florida; and two grandchildren, Tessakiree Yvette Garber and Marston Andry Garber, Aurora, Colorado.  Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Otis & Violet; and a son, Gregory Alan Garber.       Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 20th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday.  Burial will be in Morehead Cemetery east of Lamar.       Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lamar Liberty Baptist Church Benevolence Fund or the Cocoa, Florida Calvary Baptist Benevolence Fund in care of Daniel Funeral Home.       Condolences sent at www.danielfuneralhome.net
