Rick Mammen

Harold F. (Rick) Mammen was born on July 31, 1947, in Lamar, Missouri and departed this life on February 22, 2011, at his home near Lamar, after a two-year battle with cancer.  He was the second child and first son of Harold and Maggie Mammen.  Both preceded him in death.   He leaves behind his devoted and beloved wife Marilyn of 39 1/2 years, his daughter Melanie (Frank) Weasner of Clyde, Ohio; his son Nathan (Jennifer) of Alexandria, Virginia;  two sisters, Carole Sue (Ron) Hendrix of Kearney, Missouri, and Joyce Mammen of Carthage, Missouri; his brother Lawrence (Beth) of Springfield, Missouri; and beloved mother-in-law Martha Wainscott of Mulberry, Indiana.  Rick’s younger sister Vickie, who married Marilyn’s first cousin (Gary Gray) of Indiana, preceded him in death on Thanksgiving Day, 2008.  Rick’s life was blessed with many other relatives (including in-laws) and a host of friends, many of whom were his colleagues, neighbors, and the farmers and others he advised.      Rick graduated from Lockwood High School in 1965, attended Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College in Miami, Oklahoma, and finished his B.S. at Oklahoma State University in 1969.  He was privileged to receive a Purdue Graduate School Fellowship and earned a masters degree in agronomy from Purdue University in January 1971.  There, he met his wife Marilyn (Wainscott), whom he married on May 1, 1971, in Mulberry, Indiana.      In February 1984, Rick started his extension career with Purdue University Extension in Washington, Indiana.  In August 1987, he embraced the opportunity to come back home to Missouri and spent most of his working career with University of Missouri Extension.  He was an agronomist based in the Barton County office for 16 years and spent the remainder of his career as the Southwest Regional Director for University of Missouri Extension in the 16-county area of southwest Missouri.      Rick placed his faith in Jesus Christ and was saved as a young boy.  The church was always an important part of his life.  Along with two other families, Rick and Marilyn helped charter Liberty Baptist Church in 1993.  Rick served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, song leader, and organist. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27th at First Baptist Church of Lamar.  Burial will be in Morehead Cemetery.      The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Daniel Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Caringbridge.org, Barton County Memorial Hospital, or Liberty Baptist Church Missions Fund in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
