Roberta Elizabeth Hampton, age 93, of Lamar, Missouri passed away May 9, 2023, at Good Shepherd Community Care in Lockwood, Missouri.
 
Roberta was born August 11, 1929 in Piedmont, Oklahoma to Leb A Hampton and Ona Irene (Stephens) Hampton. Roberta was baptized in 1937 in Ralph Treece's Cattle Tank, west of Piedmont, Oklahoma by the pastor of the Piedmont Baptist Church. Roberta graduated from Guthrie High School in Guthrie, Oklahoma in 1947. She then received her B.S. in Journalism from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1951; Roberta then received her Master of Religious Education (M.R.E.) in 1954 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas; in 1955, she took a Spanish course, Escuela de Idiomas in San Jose, Costa Rica and then in 1966 took a Portuguese Course, Escola de Linguas, Campinas in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
 
Roberta served as a Southern Baptist Foreign Missionary, being appointed on March 11, 1954, first in Mexico (1954-57) then to Richmond, Virginia (Foreign Mission Board, SBC - now International Mission Board, IMB to serve with Dr. Eugene Hill, as Editor of Missionary Education Literature (1957-65), then to North Brazil Mission (Recife, Pernambuco) to serve as Public Relations Counselor, then to South Brazil Mission to work with Brazilian Baptist Home Mission Board (Junta de Missoes Nacionais da CBB) for 16 years, and Brazilian Baptist Woman's Missionary Union (UFMBB) until retiring on September 1, 1994. After retiring she returned to the United States and lived in Oklahoma for years and then in 2000, she moved to Lamar to be close to her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lamar.

Survivors include brother-in-law, Richard Scroggs of Lamar, MO., nieces and nephews; Mary (Chuck) Flowers of Wylie, Texas, Joy Hampton of Norman, Oklahoma, Kathy (David) Sanders of St. Clair, Missouri, Steve (Deanna) Laepple, Gary Melton, all of Lamar, MO., Barbara Laepple of Tyler, Texas, Wayne (Patty) Johnston of Lamar, MO., Bonnie Kime of Webb City, Missouri Darrel (Susie) Johnston of Carl Junction, Missouri, Larry Johnston, Connie (Greg) Smith and Christi (Kent) Renfro, all of Lamar, MO., as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Roberta was preceded in death by one brother, H.R. "Rusty' Hampton; three sisters, Iva Jean Laepple, Lou Scroggs and Wanda Johnston; two nephews, Charles Hampton, Tom Laepple; and two nieces, Carol Melton and Marsha Witham.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Lamar, MO., will burial to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Lamar, MO.

The family will receive friends starting at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2023 at the church before the service.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to the First Baptist Church of Lamar Building Fund in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
