Roy Herman Pierson, age 87, of Lamar, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 at his home.
Roy was born December 14, 1923 in Fair Play, Missouri to John Allen and Mary Jane (Phillips) Pierson. He grew up hunting and fishing, and in later years supplied many a friend and neighbor with his catch. In his youth he became an over-the-road trucker. He was also an accomplished mechanic, working many years at Ihms Garage. He drove heavy equipment for Jack Metsinger and Helmerich & Payne in Tulsa. He operated his own filling station for many years at the corner of Walnut & 160 in Lamar.
Roy was preceded in death by three brothers, Orris, Doral, and Dale Lloyd, and a sister, Phyllis. He is survived by two brothers, Russell of Lamar and Vance of Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. He also leaves a devoted friend, Larry McDaniel; three daughters, Karen Crockett, Lamar, Tracy Chaffin, Jasper, and Nada Rawlings, Diamond; a son, David Pierson, Lamar; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 10th, at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Kent Garfield officiating. Flag presentation will be conducted by Lamar VFW Post 3691.
