Shirlee Miller

Shirlee Lue Miller, age 78, of Joplin, Missouri passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 at her home following a long illness.      Shirlee and her twin sister, Sharron, were born September 30, 1937 in Saint Francis, Kansas to Glenn and Gladys (Fisher) Shaul.  In 1947, the Shaul family moved to Lamar, Missouri where Shirlee graduated from high school.  On November 2, 1957, Shirlee married Charles Miller and they shared nearly 57 years before his passing May 29, 2014.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, infant Glenn Dale Shaul and Glenn Eugene Shaul; a sister, Dorma Bradley; and two granddaughters, Lynette Miller and Ashley Standridge.      Survivors include her son, Brad (Diane) Miller, Garland, Texas; her daughter, Beth (Vince) Barcea, Watauga, Texas; two sisters, Dorlyne Schorzman and Sharron (Merdith) Chapman, Lamar; three granddaughters, Danica Gehman, Breana Bittick, and Meagan Miller; two great-grandchildren, Robert Charles Gehman and Ava Nicole Danielson; and many nephews and nieces.      For many years, Charles and Shirlee made their home in Texas.  Shirlee’s strong work ethic, meticulous attention to detail and her genuine desire to help others served her well throughout her life. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she worked as a secretary for the Federal Aviation Administration for more than 20 years.  Her outgoing personality, interest in home decor and ability to envision possibilities led Shirlee to become an agent for Bob Eden Real Estate after retiring from the FAA.  She was a green thumb gardener and many will attest to her excellent culinary skills and the warm hospitality in her home.  Shirlee truly loved the fellowship of her family, the laughter and memories made whether at home or traveling in the camper.  Her indomitable spirit was a testimony of faith and a legacy to family and friends.       Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 29th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.  A private committal service will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery.      Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association or Make A Wish Foundation, both in care of the funeral home.
