Surina Louise Vasquez Short, age 43, of Mindenmines, passed away early Monday morning, April 8, 2013 with her family by her side at her home.
Surina was born December 2, 1969 at Denver, Colorado to Earl and Eloise (Hughbanks) Spriggs. She had lived in Mindenmines for the past 4 years and had worked for several years at Ernesto’s Restaurant as well a Pitt Plastics in Pittsburg, Kansas. She was a talented sketch artist and will be remembered by all who knew her for her strong-will and determination in battling every illness and adversity in her life.
Survivors include her husband and soul-mate, Travis Short, of the home; three sons, Lawrence & wife Jesse Vasquez, Chase, Kansas, Rufus Vasquez and Joe Vasquez, both of Mindenmines; a daughter, Deanna Louise Vasquez, Mindenmines; two brothers, James Crook, Wichita, Kansas and Earl (Diana) Spriggs, Colorado Springs, Colorado; a sister, Quenna (John) Pruessner, Hermann, Missouri; two grandchildren, Zavier and Kadence Vasquez; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rick and Sheila Rhuems, Mindenmines; brothers-in-law, Kerry (Stephenie) Short, Mindenmines, Kenny Short, McPherson, Kansas, Nick Short, Pittsburg, Kansas, Shannon Rhuems, Arkansas, and Ted Rhuems, Kansas City; a sister-in-law, Trevor Short and David Cutshell, Mindenmines; and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eloise Spriggs and a brother, John P. Spriggs.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 11th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until service time.
