William
Thomas “Tom” Maberry, age 91, of Lamar, Missouri died Friday, May 26, 2017 at
his home.
Tom
was born May 30, 1925 in Dade County, Missouri to Earl and Mona (Matthews)
Maberry. He attended Lockwood High
School and served his country in the United States Army during World War II in
the 34th Infantry in the Philippines and Japan. On October 28, 1944, he married Betty McArthur
and together they raised two sons. He
graduated from Barber College in Kansas City and, in 1948, began a 45-year career
of barbering in Lamar. Tom bought the
shop in 1955 and it became known as Maberry’s Barber Shop. In 1984, he sold the
shop to his son, Alan and continued to work for Alan until retiring May 7,
1993.
Tom
was a long-time member of American Legion, VFW and served faithfully in the
Gideons International. He was also a long-time member of Lamar United Methodist
Church as well as the Fidelis Sunday School Class and United Methodist Men.
Tom
leaves behind his wife of 72 years, Betty; two sons and their wives, Alan and
Carol Maberry and Mark and Pam Maberry; six grandchildren, Shawn (Leslie),
Nathan (Beckie), Jordon (Elie), Melinda, Dustin (Melinda) and Miranda; ten
great-grandchildren, Lauren, Landon, Addie, Dylan, Grace, Remington, Trenton,
Mollie, Cason, and Cade; one sister, Joan Leaming; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a
sister, Marie Alexander.
Funeral
service will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial with graveside military honors will follow
in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The
family will receive friends 1:00 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral
home.
