Val Schwindaman

Hazel "Val" Schwindaman, age 85, a resident at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Barton County Memorial Hospital.      Val was born July 18, 1927 on the family farm near Hiawatha, Kansas, to Frank and Ruby (Gore) Tharp.  On October 21, 1947, she married William "Chet" Schwindaman and they made their home in Kansas City, Missouri.  They had shared sixteen years together before Chet's death October 29, 1963.  Val continued to live in Kansas City, working at The Yellow Cab Company for over 28 years, the Convention Bureau of Kansas City for a year, and for the Social Security Administration for seven years.  She had been active in the Kansas City VFW Auxiliary.  After retiring, Val moved to Lamar in 2007 to be near family.      In addition to her husband, Chet, Val was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Gerald Gruver.      Survivors include a daughter, Susan Gruver of Lamar; two granddaughters and their husbands, Stephanie & Dan Rothrock, Lee's Summit, Missouri and Julie & Ronald Vincent, Nevada, Missouri; four great-granddaughters, Heather Rand, Tara Cox, Brooklynn Vincent and Kaitlynn Vincent; and two great-great-granddaughters, Katherine and Evelyn Rand; four step great-great-grandchildren, Alexis, Tristin, Ethan, and Brayden Cox.      Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 4th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time.  Burial will be in Howell Cemetery south of Milford, Missouri.      Memorial contributions are suggested to the VFW or Salvation Army in care of the funeral home.
