Wayne "Duddy" A. Walter

Wayne A. Walter, age 83, of Carthage, Missouri, died Wednesday February 9, 2011 at his home after a short battle with lung cancer.       Wayne was born December 31, 1927, the son of Lawrence "Dick" and Opal (Rains) Walter.  He was a graduate from the Lamar High School in 1947.  He was united in marriage to Naomi Jean Keller on October 3, 1951.  She preceded him in death November 25, 2007.  He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska.       After retiring from Leggett & Platt, where he was a tool & dye maker,  Wayne was active with the Hispanic community and helped teach English. He enjoyed coffee at McDonalds with the Coffee Club and also enjoyed whittling.       Survivors included four daughters; Mary Beth and Greg Winder of Golden, MO, Cassandra Walter of Fort Scott, KS, Shelly White of St. Louis, MO and Shannon Peterson of Carthage, MO; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.       In addition to his wife, he was preceded by his parents; one brother, Larry Walter; two sisters, Roma Jean Foster and Elaine Bruns.       Graveside services with Military Rites will be 10:00 am Monday February 14, 2011 at Nigh Cemetery, north of Lamar.  Wayne will lie in state from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday and 1 pm to 5 pm Sunday at Daniel Funeral Home.       Donations are suggested to Regional Hospice of Joplin in care of the Daniel Funeral Home.
