Zetta May Combs, age 96, of Lamar, died
May 10, 2010, at her home after a short illness.
Zetta was born January 29, 1914 at Mountain Grove, Missouri,
and was the only child of John Benjamin and Zetta May (Fleming) Stickney. She
graduated from High School in Republic, MO and on May 22, 1938 she graduated
with a Bachelor of Science in Education from State Teachers College (SMSU) Springfield, MO.
A lifelong student of sewing and cooking, Zetta taught Home Economics at
Republic for three years and in 1941, she moved to Lamar and began teaching
Home Economics at the Lamar High School, where she taught for 17 years.
On August 6, 1958, she married Clyde Edwin
Combs, an attorney in Lamar, and a graduate of the University of Missouri. Mr. Combs preceded her in death October 29,
1965 at the age of 51.
Zetta was a member of the Lamar United
Methodist Church
where she was active in the choir, women’s organizations, and was the church
librarian until last year. This year the
church named the library the Zetta May Combs Library in honor of her years of
service. She was also a member of P.E.O.,
and GFWC Atheneum Club and Federated
Women’s Club.
Zetta is survived by second cousin, Mary
Jean Brock and husband Phil of Springfield, MO; second cousin Timothy Joseph
Tierney of Kansas City, MO; second cousin Mary Joanne Smith of Wichita, KS;
third cousins, Sherry Brock Delo and husband Jack of St. Louis, MO Sandra Brock
Langewisch and husband Paul of Fulton, MO; Sunday Brock Molen and husband Ron
of West Chester OH; Stephen Phil Brock of Springfield, MO; fourth cousins
Stacey Brooks Delo Madway and Eleanor Gasper, of Eugene, OR. And Carrice Brock
Delo of San Francisco; Amy Anderson Simmons and Billie Jean Anderson Woods of
Kansas City, Marnie Molen Hartman of Perrysburg, OH, Matthew Roberts of Orange
Park, FL; Christopher Stephen Brock and Lauren Michelle Brock of Dallas, TX;
and three toddler fifth cousins, Riley Jean Simmons of Kansas City, Madilyn
Brooks Hartman of Perrysburg, OH and Lilly Edythe Brock of Dallas, TX.
Additional survivors include the town of
Lamar, the Leonard and Annette Belline Family; including son Robert Allen
Belline and wife Betty of St. Louis, and their children Carolyn Williams and
her husband Alvi of Derby, MO; Debra Apted and husband Dan of St. Louis, and
Mark Belline and wife Willie of Richland, MO; son Bruce Belline and wife Sharon
of Lamar, MO and their children Camma Griffith and husband Brian of St. Louis,
Lance Belline and wife Ulrika of Fayetteville, AR and Trevor Belline and wife
Holland of Fayetteville, AR and son Louis Belline and wife Wanda of Duluth, GA
and their children Drew Belline and wife Margarette of Atlanta, GA and Allison
Belline of Atlanta, GA.
Funeral Services for Zetta will be 2:00 pm
Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Lamar
United Methodist
Church.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until service
time at the Lamar
United Methodist
Church.
